Biography
Amadou Hott, a candidate for the Presidency of the African Development Bank (The “Bank”) in 2025, is a seasoned executive with over 25 years of experience in economic policy, in development finance, and in investment banking. He holds degrees in applied mathematics, economics, and financial markets.
Hott served as Senegal's Minister of Economy, Planning and Cooperation (2019-2022), where he played a key role in maintaining the country's economic stability during the COVID-19 pandemic. In this role, he also acted as Sherpa for the President of Senegal at the Paris Summit on financing African economies.
Hott represented the African Union at G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bankers meetings in Indonesia, as well as at G7 Development Ministers meetings. He has been a strong advocate for the African Union to gain a seat at the G20. In his role as Minister, he was also governor of the Bank and of several other multilateral and regional development banks.
Previously, Hott was the inaugural Vice President of the African Development Bank's Power, Energy, Climate Change and Green Growth Complex (2016-2019). He was the founding CEO of FONSIS, the sovereign wealth fund of Senegal.
Until recently, he was the Special Envoy of the President of the African Development Bank for the Alliance for Green Infrastructure in Africa, working to catalyze private financing for green infrastructure projects.
His diverse career spans roles in government, development banks, and private sector finance in investment banking across Africa, America, Europe, and the Middle East. Hott is known for his leadership, dedication, and expertise in economic development, climate finance, energy and other infrastructure investments.
In 2012, the World Economic Forum nominated him as a Young Global Leader.
He is fluent in English, French, Fulani, and Wolof.
